WHO WE ARE |
| (Click on the photos for a closer look) |
| Our unit is very family oriented and children are a big part of our focus. |
| Everyone in our group
dresses, eats, and camps just like they did during the Civil War period. |
| We cook our food over open
camp fires. |
| Several members of our group are musicians, and in
the evening around the campfire, we listen to them play songs from the 19th Century and we sing
along to the songs that we all know. |
| The Second Battery Vermont Light Artillery is the
"Official Firing Battery" for the State of Vermont, and we have the privilege of using an original
1863 12 lb. Napoleon Cannon at re-enactments and Living History events that we attend. The cannon is a smooth
bore cannon and weighs about 2,000 lbs with its carriage. She is affectionately known by our group
as "Evelyn," named after a resident of Wilmington, Vermont, who was also our group's #1 supporter and fan. This website is dedicated to her memory. |

| Some people choose to do in-depth research about a
particular soldier's life and assume his identity, while others are happy simply being a generic
soldier. Below is our First Sergeant Patrick Pulver, who portrays Charles H. Dyer, the original
unit First Sergeant, who went on to become 2nd Lieutenant and finally 1st Lieutenant. Pat and
his wife Karen have done extensive research on Charles Dyer's life, including obtaining his military
records from the National Archives. |
| Most of the events we attend are in the New England
area, and our reenactment season runs from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. We are based in Wilmington,
Vermont at the Living History Museum, but our members come from various places, including New York,
Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. If you think you might like to try reenacting
and you reside in our area, we'd be glad to help you! |
